Dr Jon-Paul Khoo – Director
Dr Jon-Paul Khoo, MBBS MPH IFAPA AMA(M) FRANZCP, is a distinguished Brisbane psychiatrist, with extensive experience in negotiating the complexities of mental health, medico-legal issues, medical administration and management.
He is a psychiatrist in full-time private clinical practice at the Toowong Specialist Clinic, having previously worked in clinical and management roles within the public and private health sectors across Queensland, ensuring he brings a wealth of medical knowledge, experience and wisdom to his role as a Director of the QDHP Board. He was an Expert Advisor to the RANZCP Clinical Practice Guidelines for Mood Disorders. His research interests include high prevalence psychiatric disorder, epidemiology and public health, and have seen him published in the Global Burden of Disease studies. He treats a large cohort of medical practitioners and students and is passionate about advocating for their wellbeing.
In his roles as Deputy Chairperson of the Queensland Workers’ Compensation Regulatory Authority, Independent Medical Examiner with the AHPRA, and as a Foundation Member of the RANZCP Faculty of Forensic Psychiatry, Dr Khoo has gained a nuanced understanding of medico-legal, medical accreditation and occupational health and rehabilitation issues.
With leadership experience in his roles as Director and Director of Training (Advanced Training in Private Practice Psychiatry) of the Toowong Specialist Clinic; Director of Medicolegal Reporting National (MLR National); Executive Committee Member for the Australasian Society for Bipolar & Depressive Disorders, previous Executive Committee Member for the RANZCP Forensic Section (Queensland Branch) and the Queensland Association of Mental Health, as well as his involvement at up to National Coordinator level in international multicentre clinical trials, Dr Khoo brings a wealth of management skills to the QDHP Board.
He has a passion for medical education and teaching within his specialty and beyond, being a Senior Lecturer in the School of Psychiatry and a Medical Student Program Coordinator, at the University of Queensland; an Honorary Fellow at the School of Medicine, Deakin University; and having previously been involved in coordinating examinations and assessment conducted by the RANZCP’s Queensland Branch.
